Jonathan Rodrigues Sr. was charged with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening. Bail was set at $20,000 and his initial court appearance was scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
A second-degree assault charge for allegedly hacking his adult son with a machete has not been filed pending further investigation, the spokeswoman said.
Police responded at 8:30 p.m. Monday to a report of a domestic dispute at a Keola Place home in Mountain View. When officers arrived, 24-year-old Jonathan Rodrigues Jr. ran into the forest. He came out at 11 p.m. with substantial bodily injuries and was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released. After his release, police arrested him on two unrelated bench warrants for contempt of court.
Rodrigues Sr. was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly pointing what appeared to be a rifle at police officers who were securing the scene, police said.
Officers later recovered an air rifle, police said.
